Yordi’s Story: From "Robo Boy" to Dreaming Big

Everything changed when ARSOBO fitted Yordi with a new pair of prosthetic legs equipped with functional knee joints. For the first time, he could walk with greater comfort, confidence, and freedom. He even asked the prosthetics team to make him 10 centimeters taller, and before long, he was back asking for another 10 centimeters as he continued to grow.

Today, Yordi is no longer remembered for the nickname that once embarrassed him. He plays soccer with his friends, and those who once teased him now ask for his autograph. More importantly, he has gained the confidence to pursue his dreams. After graduating from the Universidad Tecnológica, Yordi continues to look toward the future with the goal of building a meaningful career and life.

When Jordan Norberto Castro, known as Yordi to his friends, was born, he faced extraordinary challenges. He was born with a malformed hand and legs that ended above the knees. Unable to cope with his condition, his mother left shortly after his birth. Yordi was lovingly raised by his father and grandmother, María Armenta, whose unwavering support became the foundation of his life.

At the age of four, Yordi received his first prosthetic legs. While they allowed him to walk, they were rigid and lacked knee joints, making every step difficult and unnatural. At school, classmates mocked his awkward gait, giving him the nickname "Robo Boy."

Yordi's story is a reminder that mobility is about far more than walking. It is about restoring confidence, independence, and opportunity. Through the generosity of donors, ARSOBO provides customized wheelchairs, prosthetic and orthotic devices, hearing care, and rehabilitation services to individuals who would otherwise have little access to these life-changing resources.
